NORTHERN LAKES CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES

 

 

December 9, 2011 at Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, Minneapolis, Minnesota

 

Survivor: Menu Island presentation

 

  • Debbie Zwiefelhofer, RD, LD, CFSM and Jeff Pribly Account Manager from Foodservice Express (Parent company Med-diet, Inc.), did an outstanding and informative training session on Special Diets.  Foodservice Express handles a variety of certified hard to find and shelf-stable products for all of those special diets needs.  Easy ordering and fast delivery by going to their website http://www.FoodserviceExpress.com or ordering through food distributors such as Sysco, US Foods, or Reinhart with no minimum on orders. 

 

Thank you to Phil for a wonderful lunch and tour of the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and kitchen.

Hennepin County is the largest pre-trial adult detention center in Minnesota and operates with a cook-chill production.

  • Secretary report:  Minutes from the September 26, 2011 meeting at Indianhead Food Show in Eau Clare, Wisconsin were approved.

 

  • Treasurer Report:  Balance in checking account $1,612.80 ($925.00 from dues)

                     Balance in Regional III Scholarship account $300.21

                    Total sales of fundraiser before expenses $976.00

                     Fundraiser expenses $209.92

                    Total profit from fundraiser after expenses $766.08

 

  • Region III Report:  Joint conference with Michigan and Canada is back on. More information to come.

 

International Conference locations:  2012 – New Orleans, 2013 – Reno, Nevada, 2014 – Branson, Missouri

  • International Report:  Everything is being set for the 2012 International Conference in New Orleans. La.  August 19-23.  Management team has done a great job with finances.

              Phil sent out a promotional brochure on The ACFSA to all Department of 

            Corrections and Sheriff’s Offices in the tri-state area.    

 

  • Meeting dates 2012:  March 12 – Tour Diane’s place, Robert E. Ellsworth in Union Grove, Wi. and on to Wisconsin Restaurant Association Food Show in Milwaukee, Wi. Roger will be sending out an E-mail with code to register for the food show.

April – Indianhead Food Show and tour of Mullin’s processing plant in Eau Clare, Wisconsin

August 26-29 International Conference in New Orleans, La

September – Indianhead Food Show

Fall 2012 – Chippewa Falls, Sharon’s place

 

  • Advertising on Website:  $250.00 for 6 months advertising on chapter website with proceeds to go for chapter scholarships.  Tim is working with Mullin Marketing looking at January through June 2012 to start advertising. 

 

  • New Fundraiser:  Fundraiser chairperson – Rick Carl.  Many ideas were discussed on possibilities for a new fundraiser.  Rick will check into discount cards.  More discussion at the March meeting.  

 

  • Up-coming Elections:  Vice-president and Secretary Positions coming up in August.  March meeting will be nominations.

 

  • Open discussion:  Jeff Pribel’s name will be added on the chapter website, as he is the Vendor Liaison for Northern Lakes.
  • Re-newing of website in May 2012. 
  • Discussion on sending out personal e-mails as up-dates as a way to stay in touch. 
  • Checking account changed by ACFSA management team to not have individual names listed on checks for safety purposes.
  • New Insider magazine has many articles from Region III members.  Everyone is encouraged to write an article.
  • Ideas for a “Fun Day” in Wisconsin Dells.  Watch for details.

Professional Partners Presentation

 

  • Tom Champion from Superb Meats gave an overview of his company.  Superb Meats specializes in a variety of bulk and sliced meats and opportunity buys.   The company is located in St Paul, Minnesota. Tom will be sending information to chapter members through e-mails.

  • Secretary Report:  Minutes from the August 17, 2011 meeting at the ACFSA International Conference Norfolk Virginia were read and approved.

 

  • Treasurer Report: Balance in checking account $642.80

      Balance in Regional III Scholarship account $300.00

      Total monies brought in from fundraiser before expenses $936.00

      Total profit from fundraiser after expenses $726.08

 

  • Region III report:

Cake decorating contest at International conference:  Rick Carl from Waupun Correctional in Wisconsin, and Holly Martin from Saginaw County Jail in Michigan represented Region III and placed second in the contest.

 

Michigan Chapter and Canada’s Region V are working on setting up a conference next year. No dates have been set; however, June is possible. This will be a big event.

 

With the restructuring of Region III and the creation of Region V, Region V is growing and now has 80 new members.

 

  • National report:

             The International Board wants to up grade the impression of the Insider magazine    

             with educational and helpful subjects.       

             Members are encouraged to submit articles to Phil or Teddie.

Phil is working on a brochure to be sent to the DOC and foodservice administrators promoting the ACFSA .

 

 

 

2012 International conference is August 26-29 in New Orleans.         

  

           Possible locations for up coming ACFSA International Conferences:

 

              2013 - Reno Nevada

              2014 – Branson Missouri

              Northern Lakes Chapter and Michigan Chapter will be very involved with the  

              details of the 2014 conference. 

             

 

        Tentative NL meeting schedule for 2011 / 2012:

 

        December 9, 2011- Special Diets with Foodservice Express. Also a mini food show at    

        Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office.      

 

        March 12, 2012 -Tour of the food service operation at Ellsworth Correctional     

        Center followed by Wisconsin Restaurant Association Food Expo and NL     

        Chapter Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

 

        April 2012 – Indianhead Food Distributors Spring buying Show in Eau Claire,     

        Wisconsin with a possible tour of Professional partner, Mullin marketing's Food reprocessing plant.

 

  • Selling advertising on website: 

Tim introduced the idea of selling advertising space on the chapter website and using the proceeds for chapter scholarships. Tim, Sharon, Kerry, Jeff and Diane are working together to develop a plan.

 

 

  • New fundraiser ideas: 

 Options of fundraiser ideas were discussed.  It was agreed to focus on the development of selling advertising on the chapter website and David will get information on options of fundraising kits from a variety of businesses. 

 

  • ACFSA Basket Update:  David has purchased two baskets to be used for the International Conference.  We will wait to hear what the theme for the conference will be.  Everyone is encouraged to be looking for to add to the basket or other items we could sell or raffle off for our chapter at the conference.

 

  • Chapter Checking Account:  Motion made by Phil to change the two board members as checking account signers from Tim and Roger to Diane and Roger.  Second by David and agreed upon by those present. 

 

  • Next Chapter Meeting:  December 9, 2011 at Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office 401 4th Avenue South Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Special diets and mini food show.  9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
